While quiet times can take on many different shapes and may be referred to by varying names - such as “devotionals” - a few constants do exist. These include:
- A time set aside specifically for seeking the Lord
- A time of solitude
- Some combination of Scripture reading, prayer, worship and contemplation (meditation).
Quiet times are generally promoted as a morning time occurrence for the following reasons:
- It honors God to give him the “first-fruits” of your day
- It prepares your heart and mind for the day
- Jesus set the example of rising early to meet with the Father (Mark 1:35)
- David and other believers throughout Scripture set the example of rising early to meet with the Father (Psalm 119:147-148)
